The Final Years in Confinement
Imam Hassan al-Askari (a.s.) lived a short life of 28 years, spending most of it under severe house arrest. The Abbasid caliph Al-Mu'tamid was terrified of the prophesied birth of the 12th Imam, who would fill the earth with justice, so he kept the 11th Imam under constant watch. (Source: Kamal al-Din)
Martyrdom and the Start of Imamate
The caliph secretly poisoned the Imam. Before his martyrdom on the 8th of Rabi' al-Awwal 260 AH, Imam al-Askari (a.s.) appointed his young son, Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), as his successor. Following his father's funeral, the 12th Imam went into minor occultation (Ghaybat al-Sughra). The 11th Imam is buried in Samarra.
Aamal for 8th Rabi' al-Awwal
This day is marked with deep sorrow for the loss of the 11th Imam, but the following day (9th Rabi' al-Awwal) is celebrated as Eid-e-Zahra, marking the beginning of the Imamate of the Imam of our time. On the 8th, reciting his Ziyarat and offering condolences to Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) are highly recommended.

ইমাম হাসান আল-আসকারী (আ.) ২৮ বছরের সংক্ষিপ্ত জীবন যাপন করেছিলেন, যার বেশিরভাগ সময়ই কঠোর গৃহবন্দী অবস্থায় কেটেছিল। আব্বাসীয় খলিফা আল-মুতামিদ ১২তম ইমামের ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী করা জন্ম নিয়ে আতঙ্কিত ছিল, যিনি ন্যায়বিচার দিয়ে পৃথিবী পূর্ণ করবেন, তাই সে ১১তম ইমামকে ধ্রুবক নজরদারিতে রেখেছিল। (সূত্র: কামালুদ্দিন)
শাহাদত এবং ইমামতের সূচনা
খলিফা গোপনে ইমামকে বিষ প্রয়োগ করে। ২৬০ হিজরির ৮ রবিউল আউয়াল তাঁর শাহাদতের আগে, ইমাম আল-আসকারী (আ.) তাঁর তরুণ পুত্র ইমাম আল-মাহদীকে (আ.) তাঁর উত্তরসূরি হিসেবে নিয়োগ করেন। তাঁর পিতার জানাজার পর, ১২তম ইমাম ক্ষুদ্র অন্তর্ধানে (গায়বতে সুগরা) চলে যান। ১১তম ইমামকে সামেরায় দাফন করা হয়েছে।
৮ রবিউল আউয়ালের আমল
এই দিনটি ১১তম ইমামের মৃত্যুতে গভীর শোকের সাথে পালিত হয়, তবে এর পরের দিন (৯ রবিউল আউয়াল) ঈদে যাহরা হিসেবে উদযাপিত হয়, যা আমাদের সময়ের ইমামের ইমামতের সূচনা চিহ্নিত করে। ৮ তারিখে তাঁর জিয়ারত পাঠ করা এবং ইমাম আল-মাহদীর (আ.) কাছে সমবেদনা জ্ঞাপন করা অত্যন্ত সুপারিশকৃত।
