The Water Blockade
On the 7th of Muharram, Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad ordered Umar ibn Sa'd to cut off the water supply to Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions. Five hundred horsemen under the command of Amr ibn Hajjaj were stationed along the banks of the Euphrates River to prevent anyone from the Imam's camp from fetching water.
Thirst in the Camp
This inhumane blockade led to severe thirst in the camp, particularly affecting the young children and infants, such as the six-month-old Ali Asghar (a.s.). Significance
The blockade of water is a poignant symbol of the extreme cruelty of Yazid's army. In Shia tradition, drinking water is often accompanied by the phrase 'Salaam upon Hussain (a.s.)' as a tribute to the thirst he and his family endured. Majalis on this day focus on the cries of 'Al-Atash' (Thirst) from the children of the Prophet's household.

৭ মহররম, উবায়দুল্লাহ ইবনে জিয়াদ উমর ইবনে সাদকে ইমাম হুসাইন (আ.) এবং তাঁর সঙ্গীদের পানি সরবরাহ বন্ধ করার নির্দেশ দেয়। আমর ইবনে হাজ্জাজের নেতৃত্বে পাঁচশত অশ্বারোহীকে ফোরাত নদীর তীরে মোতায়েন করা হয় যাতে ইমামের শিবিরের কেউ পানি আনতে না পারে।
শিবিরে তৃষ্ণা
এই অমানবিক অবরোধের ফলে শিবিরে মারাত্মক তৃষ্ণা দেখা দেয়, যা বিশেষ করে ছোট শিশু এবং ছয় মাসের আলী আসগর (আ.)-কে গভীরভাবে প্রভাবিত করে। চরম কষ্ট সত্ত্বেও, ইমামের সঙ্গী এবং পরিবারের সদস্যরা অপরিসীম ধৈর্য এবং আল্লাহর ওপর ভরসা রেখে এই পরীক্ষা সহ্য করেন। (সূত্র: আল-ইরশাদ, শেখ মুফিদ)
গুরুত্ব
পানি অবরুদ্ধ করা ইয়াজিদের সেনাবাহিনীর চরম নিষ্ঠুরতার একটি মর্মস্পর্শী প্রতীক। শিয়া ঐতিহ্যে, পানি পানের সময় প্রায়ই 'ইমাম হুসাইনের (আ.) ওপর সালাম' বলা হয়, যা তাঁর এবং তাঁর পরিবারের সহ্য করা তৃষ্ণার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি। এই দিনের মজলিসগুলোতে নবীর পরিবারের শিশুদের 'আল-আতাশ' (তৃষ্ণা) কান্নার ওপর আলোকপাত করা হয়।
