The Strike in the Mihrab
On the 19th of Ramadan 40 AH, while leading the Fajr prayer in the Great Mosque of Kufa, Imam Ali (a.s.) was struck on the head with a poisoned sword by Ibn Muljam (may Allah curse him), a Kharijite. Upon being struck, the Imam cried out, 'Fuztu wa Rabbil Kaaba' (By the Lord of the Kaaba, I have succeeded!).
His Final Days and Martyrdom
The Imam suffered from the poison for two days. On his deathbed, he advised his sons, Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain (a.s.), to maintain piety, care for orphans, and stand against oppressors. He achieved martyrdom on the 21st of Ramadan and was secretly buried in Najaf to protect his grave from enemies. (Source: Nahj al-Balagha)
Aamal for 21st Ramadan
The 21st of Ramadan is a night of intense mourning and is also the second and most probable Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr). It is highly recommended to stay awake in worship, recite the Quran, perform the Aamal of Laylat al-Qadr, recite Ziyarat Ameenullah, and mourn the tragic loss of the Commander of the Faithful.
মেহরাবে আঘাত
৪০ হিজরির ১৯ রমজান, কুফার বড় মসজিদে ফজরের নামাজের ইমামতি করার সময় খারিজি ইবনে মুলজম (তার ওপর আল্লাহর লানত) একটি বিষাক্ত তলোয়ার দিয়ে ইমাম আলীর (আ.) মাথায় আঘাত করে। আঘাত পাওয়ার সাথে সাথে ইমাম চিৎকার করে ওঠেন, 'ফুজতু ওয়া রাব্বিল কাবা' (কাবার প্রভুর কসম, আমি সফল হয়েছি!)।
তাঁর শেষ দিন এবং শাহাদত
ইমাম দুই দিন বিষের যন্ত্রণায় ভুগেছিলেন। মৃত্যুশয্যায় তিনি তাঁর পুত্র ইমাম হাসান ও ইমাম হুসাইন (আ.)-কে তাকওয়া বজায় রাখা, এতিমদের যত্ন নেওয়া এবং অত্যাচারীদের বিরুদ্ধে দাঁড়ানোর উপদেশ দেন। তিনি ২১ রমজান শাহাদত বরণ করেন এবং শত্রুদের হাত থেকে কবর রক্ষার জন্য নাজাফে গোপনে তাঁকে দাফন করা হয়। (সূত্র: নাহজুল বালাগা)
২১ রমজানের আমল
২১ রমজান গভীর শোকের রাত এবং এটি কদরের রাতের (লাইলাতুল কদর) দ্বিতীয় ও সবচেয়ে সম্ভাব্য রাত। এই রাতে জেগে থেকে ইবাদত করা, কুরআন তিলাওয়াত করা, লাইলাতুল কদরের আমল করা, জিয়ারতে আমিনুল্লাহ পাঠ করা এবং আমিরুল মুমিনিনের মর্মান্তিক মৃত্যুতে শোক প্রকাশের অত্যন্ত সুপারিশ করা হয়।
