10 Dhul Hijja

Eid al-Adha — The Festival of Sacrifice

Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's unwavering obedience to Allah's command to sacrifice his son, and Allah's merciful intervention.

The Ultimate Test of Faith

Eid al-Adha marks the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and is one of the two greatest festivals in Islam. It commemorates the momentous trial of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.), who willingly prepared to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (a.s.), in absolute submission to the will of Allah. Impressed by their unwavering faith, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, establishing the tradition of sacrifice. (Source: Tafsir al-Mizan)

The Completion of Hajj

This Eid also coincides with the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage, where millions of Muslims gather in Mecca to perform sacred rituals, symbolizing unity, equality, and devotion to the One Creator. The act of Qurbani (sacrifice) teaches us to sacrifice our ego and worldly attachments for the sake of Allah.

Aamal for Eid al-Adha

Recommended acts include performing the Ghusl of Eid, attending the Eid congregational prayer, and reciting the specific Takbeerat of Eid. Those who can afford it perform the Qurbani and distribute the meat among family, friends, and the needy. Reciting Dua Nudba in the morning is also a highly emphasized tradition in the Shia community.
