Early Life and Valor

Nafi ibn Hilal al-Jamali was a prominent companion of Imam Ali, having fought alongside him in the battles of Siffin, Jamal, and Nahrawan. He was a nobleman from his tribe, a skilled reciter of the Quran, and renowned for his exceptional bravery and mastery of archery. He joined Imam Husayn's caravan on its way to Karbala.

Role at Karbala

At Karbala, Nafi demonstrated extraordinary courage. The night before Ashura, he accompanied Abbas ibn Ali on a daring mission to fetch water for the camp. On the day of the battle, Nafi inscribed his name on his poisoned arrows, declaring his allegiance to the religion of Ali. He struck fear into the hearts of the Umayyad army with his precise and deadly archery.

Martyrdom

After exhausting his arrows, Nafi drew his sword and charged at the enemy, fighting relentlessly until his arms were broken by stones and he was captured. When brought before Umar ibn Sa'ad, Nafi remained defiant and proud of his actions, ultimately being beheaded by Shimr. His bravery is documented in various historical texts, including those on Al-Islam.org.
