Lineage and Background
Kurdus ibn Zuhayr al-Taghlibi was the brother of Qasit and Muqsit, from the Taghlib tribe. Like his brothers, he was a staunch supporter of Imam Ali (a.s.) and actively participated in the defense of justice during the battles of Jamal, Siffin, and Nahrawan. He remained in Kufa after Imam Ali's martyrdom, staying loyal to the Ahl al-Bayt.
Role at Karbala
Hearing the call of Imam Husayn (a.s.), Kurdus abandoned the city of Kufa, which had succumbed to fear and oppression, and joined the Imam's camp in Karbala. On the tragic day of Ashura, Kurdus stepped onto the battlefield with immense bravery. He is recorded as having fallen during the first massive barrage of arrows and subsequent cavalry charge by Umar ibn Sa'd's army. He is honored in the Ziyarat of the Martyrs.
