The Splitter of Knowledge

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) was born on the 1st of Rajab 57 AH. He holds a unique lineage, as both his father (Imam Sajjad) and mother (Fatima bint Hassan) were grandchildren of Imam Ali (a.s.). The Prophet (PBUH) had foreseen his birth and sent him greetings through the companion Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, naming him 'Al-Baqir' (the one who splits knowledge open). (Source: Al-Irshad)

His Legacy

Imam al-Baqir (a.s.) lived during the transition of power from the Umayyads to the Abbasids. Taking advantage of this political instability, he established a great school of Islamic sciences in Medina, training thousands of scholars in jurisprudence, exegesis, and theology, thus formalizing the Ja'fari school of thought.

Aamal for 1st Rajab

The 1st of Rajab marks the beginning of the highly sacred month of Rajab. Recommended acts include performing a ghusl, fasting, visiting the shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.) (Ziyarat Rajabiyyah), and reciting the Ziyarat of Imam al-Baqir (a.s.).
