Background
Zayd ibn Thubayt, widely recorded in historical sources as Yazid ibn Thubayt al-Abdi al-Basri, was a prominent Shia from Basra. He belonged to the tribe of Abd al-Qays. Zayd was known for his strong faith and devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt. When he received the call of Imam Husayn (a.s.), he gathered his ten sons and urged them to join him in defending the Imam.
The Journey from Basra
Despite the strict surveillance imposed by Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad's agents in Basra, Zayd and his two sons, Abd Allah and Ubayd Allah, managed to leave the city secretly. They traveled through the desert and joined Imam Husayn's caravan at Abtah (near Mecca) or on the way to Karbala. Imam Husayn was immensely pleased with their arrival and personally went to Zayd’s tent to welcome him.
Martyrdom
At Karbala, Zayd and his sons displayed remarkable patience and courage. On the Day of Ashura, all three of them were martyred fighting the forces of Yazid. In the Ziyarat al-Shuhada, he is addressed specifically: "Peace be upon Zayd ibn Thubayt al-Qaysi; peace be upon Abd Allah and Ubayd Allah, the two sons of Yazid ibn Thubayt al-Qaysi." বসরা থেকে যাত্রা
বসরায় উবায়দুল্লাহ ইবনে জিয়াদের চরদের কড়া নজরদারি থাকা সত্ত্বেও জায়েদ এবং তাঁর দুই ছেলে, আব্দুল্লাহ এবং উবায়দুল্লাহ গোপনে শহর ত্যাগ করতে সক্ষম হন। তারা মরুভূমি অতিক্রম করে আবতাহ (মক্কার কাছে) বা কারবালার পথে ইমাম হোসাইনের কাফেলায় যোগ দেন। তাদের আগমনে ইমাম হোসাইন অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত হন এবং জায়েদকে স্বাগত জানাতে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে তাঁর তাঁবুতে যান।
শাহাদাত
