Yazid ibn Thubayt al-Abdi

Early Life and Background

Yazid ibn Thubayt al-Abdi was from the Abd al-Qays tribe in Basra. He was a prominent Shia in Basra and an ardent follower of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.). He was a close companion of Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali.

Joining Imam Husayn (a.s.)

When the news of Imam Husayn's (a.s.) movement reached Basra, Yazid decided to join him. Despite the strict blockade imposed by Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad's forces in Basra, Yazid gathered his ten sons and urged them to accompany him. Only two of his sons, Abdullah and Ubaydullah, accepted the call. They covertly left Basra and traveled to Mecca to join the Imam.

Martyrdom at Karbala

Yazid and his two sons traveled with Imam Husayn (a.s.) from Mecca to Karbala. On the Day of Ashura, Yazid bravely fought against the Umayyad army, defending the grandson of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.). He fought valiantly and achieved martyrdom. For more details on his life, refer to Al-Islam.org.
