Umar ibn Jundab al-Hadhrami (r.a.)

Lineage and Background

Umar ibn Jundab al-Hadhrami hailed from the Hadhramaut tribe. He was a devout follower of the Ahl al-Bayt and a companion of Imam Ali (a.s.). Living in Kufa, he maintained his unwavering loyalty to the household of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) despite the oppressive political climate under the Umayyads.

Role at Karbala

When Umar ibn Jundab learned of Imam Husayn's arrival at Karbala, he managed to bypass the blockades set up by Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad and joined the Imam's camp. On the morning of Ashura, during the massive first assault by Umar ibn Sa'd's forces, Umar ibn Jundab fought fiercely alongside the other companions. He defended the tents of the Ahl al-Bayt and was eventually martyred, attaining eternal bliss.
