Early Life and Background
Qasim ibn Harith al-Azdi (r.a.) belonged to the prominent Azd tribe of Kufa. Like many of the loyalist families in Kufa, his family had a long-standing history of allegiance to the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S). He grew up imbued with the love of Amir al-Mu'minin Imam Ali (A.S) and was known among his tribesmen for his piety, bravery, and steadfastness.
Journey to Karbala
When Imam Husayn (A.S) refused to pay allegiance to Yazid and left for Mecca and subsequently Kufa, Qasim was among those who eagerly sought to join the Imam. Recognizing the betrayal of the Kufans, he managed to leave the city and joined the caravan of Imam Husayn (A.S) before it was intercepted by the forces of Hurr ibn Yazid al-Riyahi.
Martyrdom on the Day of Ashura
On the Day of Ashura, Qasim stood valiantly alongside the other companions. He was among the brave warriors who defended the Imam during the initial massive assault (the first attack) launched by Umar ibn Sa'd's army. According to various historical accounts, including those detailed in Nafasul Mahmoom, Qasim fought courageously, repelling several enemy soldiers before eventually falling as a martyr, sacrificing his life for the defense of truth and the grandson of the Prophet (S).

কাসিম ইবনে হারিস আল-আজদী (রা.) কুফার বিখ্যাত আজদ গোত্রের অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিলেন। কুফার অনেক অনুগত পরিবারের মতো, তাঁর পরিবারেরও আহলে বাইত (আ.) এর প্রতি আনুগত্যের দীর্ঘ ইতিহাস ছিল। তিনি আমিরুল মুমিনীন ইমাম আলী (আ.) এর ভালোবাসায় সিক্ত হয়ে বেড়ে ওঠেন এবং তাঁর গোত্রের মানুষের কাছে তাঁর তাকওয়া, সাহসিকতা এবং অবিচলতার জন্য পরিচিত ছিলেন।
কারবালার যাত্রা
যখন ইমাম হোসাইন (আ.) ইয়াজিদের প্রতি আনুগত্য প্রকাশে অস্বীকৃতি জানান এবং মক্কা ও পরবর্তীতে কুফার উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হন, তখন কাসিম তাদের মধ্যে একজন ছিলেন যারা আগ্রহের সাথে ইমামের সাথে যোগ দিতে চেয়েছিলেন। কুফাবাসীদের বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা বুঝতে পেরে, তিনি শহর ত্যাগ করতে সক্ষম হন এবং হুর ইবনে ইয়াজিদ আল-রিয়াহির বাহিনীর দ্বারা অবরুদ্ধ হওয়ার আগেই ইমাম হোসাইন (আ.) এর কাফেলায় যোগ দেন।
আশুরার দিনে শাহাদাত
আশুরার দিনে কাসিম সাহসিকতার সাথে অন্যান্য সঙ্গীদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন। উমর ইবনে সাদের সেনাবাহিনীর দ্বারা শুরু হওয়া প্রথম বিশাল হামলার সময় তিনি ইমামকে রক্ষাকারী সাহসী যোদ্ধাদের মধ্যে একজন ছিলেন। বিভিন্ন ঐতিহাসিক বিবরণ অনুযায়ী, যার মধ্যে নাফাসুল মাহমুম-এ বিস্তারিত রয়েছে, কাসিম সাহসিকতার সাথে লড়াই করেছিলেন, কয়েকজন শত্রু সেনাকে প্রতিহত করেছিলেন এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত সত্য ও নবীর (সা.) নাতিকে রক্ষার জন্য নিজের জীবন উৎসর্গ করে শহীদ হন।
