Background
Muslim ibn Awsaja was an honorable elder and a respected figure of the Banu Asad tribe in Kufa. He was a companion (Sahabi) of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and a loyal follower of Imam Ali (a.s.). When Muslim ibn Aqil arrived in Kufa as Imam Husayn's emissary, Muslim ibn Awsaja played a crucial role in collecting funds and gathering allegiance for the Imam. After Muslim ibn Aqil's martyrdom, he managed to evade capture and, along with his family and friend Habib ibn Mudhahir, journeyed secretly to join Imam Husayn at Karbala.
Role at Karbala
On the night of Ashura, when Imam Husayn relieved his companions from their pledge of allegiance and urged them to flee under the cover of darkness, Muslim ibn Awsaja was among the first to passionately refuse. He declared that even if he were killed, burned to ashes, and resurrected seventy times, he would never abandon the Imam.
Martyrdom
During the intense battle on Ashura, Muslim fought fiercely on the left wing. He was heavily wounded by the forces of Amr ibn al-Hajjaj and fell to the ground. Imam Husayn and Habib ibn Mudhahir rushed to his side. Habib asked if he had any final will. Even with his dying breath, Muslim pointed to Imam Husayn and whispered to Habib, "My only will is that you defend this man until your last drop of blood." মুসলিম ইবনে আওসাজা ছিলেন কুফার বনু আসাদ গোত্রের একজন সম্মানিত প্রবীণ ও শ্রদ্ধেয় ব্যক্তিত্ব। তিনি ছিলেন নবী (সাঃ)-এর একজন সাহাবী এবং ইমাম আলী (আঃ)-এর একনিষ্ঠ অনুসারী। যখন মুসলিম ইবনে আকিল ইমাম হুসাইনের দূত হিসেবে কুফায় আসেন, তখন মুসলিম ইবনে আওসাজা ইমামের জন্য অর্থ সংগ্রহ এবং আনুগত্য গ্রহণের ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেন। মুসলিম ইবনে আকিলের শাহাদাতের পর তিনি ধরা পড়ার হাত থেকে রক্ষা পান এবং তাঁর পরিবার ও বন্ধু হাবীব ইবনে মুজাহিরের সাথে গোপনে কারবালায় ইমাম হুসাইনের সাথে যোগ দেন।
কারবালায় ভূমিকা
আশুরার রাতে, যখন ইমাম হুসাইন তাঁর সঙ্গীদের আনুগত্যের শপথ থেকে মুক্তি দেন এবং রাতের অন্ধকারে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার পরামর্শ দেন, তখন মুসলিম ইবনে আওসাজা সর্বপ্রথম আবেগভরে তা প্রত্যাখ্যান করেন। তিনি ঘোষণা করেন যে, যদি তাঁকে হত্যা করা হয়, পুড়িয়ে ছাই করা হয় এবং সত্তরবার পুনরুত্থিত করা হয়, তবুও তিনি কখনো ইমামকে ত্যাগ করবেনশে ত্যাগ করবেন না।
শাহাদাত
আশুরার দিন প্রচণ্ড যুদ্ধে মুসলিম বাম দিকে বীরত্বের সাথে লড়াই করেন। তিনি আমর ইবনে আল-হাজ্জাজের বাহিনীর দ্বারা মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হয়ে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়েন। ইমাম হুসাইন এবং হাবীব ইবনে মুজাহির তাঁর পাশে ছুটে আসেন। হাবীব জিজ্ঞাসা করেন তাঁর কোনো শেষ ইচ্ছা আছে কি না। শেষ নিশ্বাস ত্যাগের সময়ও মুসলিম ইমাম হুসাইনের দিকে ইঙ্গিত করে হাবীবকে ফিসফিস করে বলেন, "আমার একমাত্র ইচ্ছা হলো, তুমি তোমার শেষ রক্তবিন্দু দিয়ে এই মানুষটিকে রক্ষা করবে।" তাঁর এই অটল আনুগত্য শিয়া শোক পালনের ঐতিহ্যে একটি ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর হয়ে আছে। (সূত্র: Al-Islam.org)
