The Title Al-Askari
Imam Hasan (a.s.) was given the title Al-Askari because he was forced to live his entire Imamate in "Askar," the military garrison area of Samarra. The Abbasid caliphs were terrified of the prophetic tradition that the 12th Imam, the Mahdi, would be born from his lineage and would destroy all tyrants. Thus, they kept him under suffocating surveillance.
Preparation for the Occultation
The Imam's primary mission was to protect the life of his young son, Imam al-Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), and to prepare the Shia community for an era where their Imam would be hidden. He communicated mostly from behind curtains or through his trusted deputies, heavily relying on written correspondence to accustom the believers to indirect communication.
Martyrdom
He was poisoned at the young age of 28. Despite the intense military blockade, thousands of people from all walks of life flooded the streets of Samarra for his funeral, a testament to his undeniable spiritual majesty.
আল-আসকারী উপাধি
ইমাম হাসান (আ.)-কে আল-আসকারী উপাধি দেওয়া হয়েছিল কারণ তাঁকে তাঁর পুরো ইমামতির সময় সামাররার সামরিক এলাকা "আসকার"-এ বসবাস করতে বাধ্য করা হয়েছিল। আব্বাসীয় খলিফারা নবীর সেই হাদিস নিয়ে আতঙ্কিত ছিল যে, তাঁর বংশ থেকে ১২তম ইমাম, মাহদীর জন্ম হবে এবং তিনি সমস্ত স্বৈরশাসককে ধ্বংস করবেন। তাই তারা তাঁকে শ্বাসরুদ্ধকর নজরদারিতে রেখেছিল।
অন্তর্ধানের প্রস্তুতি
ইমামের প্রধান লক্ষ্য ছিল তাঁর শিশুপুত্র ইমাম মাহদীর (আ.) জীবন রক্ষা করা এবং শিয়া সম্প্রদায়কে এমন এক যুগের জন্য প্রস্তুত করা যখন তাদের ইমাম লোকচক্ষুর আড়ালে থাকবেন। তিনি মূলত পর্দার আড়াল থেকে বা তাঁর বিশ্বস্ত প্রতিনিধিদের মাধ্যমে যোগাযোগ করতেন। মুমিনদের পরোক্ষ যোগাযোগের অভ্যস্ত করার জন্য তিনি লিখিত চিঠিপত্রের ওপর ব্যাপকভাবে নির্ভর করতেন।
শাহাদত
মাত্র ২৮ বছর বয়সে তাঁকে বিষপ্রয়োগে শহীদ করা হয়। কঠোর সামরিক অবরোধ সত্ত্বেও, সমাজের সর্বস্তরের হাজার হাজার মানুষ তাঁর জানাজায় অংশ নেওয়ার জন্য সামাররার রাস্তায় ঢল নামে, যা তাঁর অনস্বীকার্য আধ্যাত্মিক মর্যাদার প্রমাণ।
