Early Life and Background
Shawzab ibn Abdullah al-Hamdani was a prominent figure among the Shia of Kufa. He was known for his piety, knowledge of Hadith, and immense love for the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.). His house in Kufa often served as a gathering place for the Shia to discuss the virtues of Imam Ali (A.S.) and organize their activities. When Muslim ibn Aqil arrived in Kufa, Shawzab was among those who took the oath of allegiance and assisted him.
Journey to Karbala
When the situation in Kufa turned against the followers of the Ahlul Bayt, Shawzab, along with his close friend Aabis ibn Abi Shabib, managed to leave the city and joined Imam Husayn (A.S.) in Mecca or en route to Karbala. Their steadfastness in the face of immense danger demonstrated their true faith.
Martyrdom
On the Day of Ashura, Aabis asked Shawzab, "What is your intention?" Shawzab replied, "I will fight alongside you to defend the son of the Messenger of Allah until I am martyred." Following his friend's lead, Shawzab entered the battlefield, recited poetry declaring his allegiance, and fought with remarkable bravery against the overwhelming enemy forces until he attained martyrdom.
