Background and Capture

Rayhana bint Zayd originated from the Jewish Banu Nadir tribe and was married into the Banu Qurayza. Following the treachery of the Banu Qurayza during the Battle of the Trench and their subsequent defeat, she was taken captive. The Prophet (PBUH) offered her freedom and marriage, but she initially hesitated, finding it difficult to reconcile with the execution of her tribe's leaders.

Embracing Islam

She eventually found peace, sincerely accepted Islam, and chose to be with the Prophet. Like Maria, historical accounts differ on whether she remained an honorable concubine (Umm al-Walad) or if she was officially freed and granted the status of a full wife. Many traditions lean toward her being a formal wife.

A Life of Seclusion

She lived a quiet, secluded life, dedicating herself entirely to worship and remaining away from the public eye. She passed away at a young age, shortly after the Prophet returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage, and was buried with honor in the Jannat al-Baqi cemetery. She is respected for her journey from adversity to sincere faith.
