Early Life and Background
Khalid ibn Amr al-Azdi (r.a.) was the son of Amr ibn Khalid al-Bariqi al-Azdi. His family belonged to the Bariq tribe, a branch of the larger Azd tribe. Like his father, he was a devoted follower of the Ahl al-Bayt. When Imam Husayn's call for support reached them, Khalid accompanied his father and other prominent companions like Nafi ibn Hilal from Kufa to join the Imam's camp at Karbala. (Source: Al-Islam.org)
Role in Karbala and Martyrdom
On the Day of Ashura, Khalid displayed immense courage. Following the martyrdom of his father, Amr ibn Khalid, Khalid requested permission from Imam Husayn (a.s.) to enter the battlefield. He recited a moving Rajaz (martial poetry) that honored his father's sacrifice and proclaimed his unwavering devotion to Imam Husayn and the Ahl al-Bayt. He fought valiantly against the Umayyad forces, striking down several enemy soldiers before achieving martyrdom. His sacrifice is immortalized in Shia historical accounts and Ziyarat texts.
