Journey to Karbala

Juwayn ibn Malik al-Taimi (r.a.), originally from the Banu Tamim clan, initially arrived at Karbala as part of the massive Umayyad army commanded by Umar ibn Sa'd. At the time, many were coerced or misled into joining the ranks against Imam al-Husayn (a), unaware of the tragic depths to which the Umayyad forces would sink.

The Turning Point and Defection

As the events of Karbala unfolded, Juwayn witnessed Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad's absolute refusal to accept any of Imam al-Husayn's (a) peaceful proposals. Recognizing the gross injustice and the impending massacre of the Prophet's (s) household, Juwayn's conscience awakened. In a courageous act of defiance, he, along with several others from his tribe, defected from the Kufan army under the cover of night to join Imam al-Husayn (a).

Ultimate Sacrifice

Having repented and aligned himself with the absolute truth, Juwayn stood proudly among the defenders of the Imam (a). On the Day of Ashura, he was martyred during the ferocious first attack by the enemy. His righteous transformation is immortalized, and he is respectfully mentioned in the Ziyarat al-Shuhada as Juwayn ibn Malik al-Duba'i.
