The Treachery of Muawiyah

On the 28th of Safar 50 AH, Imam Hassan (a.s.) attained martyrdom. Muawiyah, realizing that the presence of Imam Hassan (a.s.) hindered his plan to pass the caliphate to his corrupt son Yazid, bribed the Imam's wife, Ja'da. He promised her money and marriage to Yazid if she poisoned the Imam.

The Tragic Funeral

The poison caused Imam Hassan's (a.s.) liver to disintegrate. In his final moments, he instructed Imam Hussain (a.s.) to bury him near his grandfather, the Prophet (PBUH). However, when the funeral procession approached the Prophet's mosque, Aisha and the Umayyads prevented it, shooting arrows at the Imam's coffin. To avoid bloodshed, Imam Hussain (a.s.) buried him in Jannat al-Baqi. (Source: Kitab al-Irshad)

Aamal for 28th Safar

The 28th of Safar marks a double tragedy—the passing of the Prophet (PBUH) and the martyrdom of Imam Hassan (a.s.). Shia Muslims hold majalis to mourn the oppression faced by the 'Lonely Imam' (Gharib al-Madina) and recite his Ziyarat.
