The Chief of the Ja'fari School

Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.) was born on the 17th of Rabi' al-Awwal 83 AH in Medina. His birth on the same day as his great-grandfather, the Holy Prophet (PBUH), doubles the joy of this day. He is known as 'Al-Sadiq' (The Truthful).

His Massive Scientific Contribution

Taking advantage of the political vacuum during the fall of the Umayyads and the rise of the Abbasids, Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) expanded the university started by his father. He had over 4,000 students, including prominent figures like Jabir ibn Hayyan (the father of chemistry) and Abu Hanifa. The Shia school of jurisprudence is named the 'Ja'fari School' due to the vast number of laws narrated through him. (Source: Al-Mufid's Al-Irshad)
